CAUSE:Unknown at this momentAnswer/Solution FIX: INTRODUCTION: This document explains the basic procedure to completely uninstall Designjet Printer drivers from MAC Operating Systems. Following the instructions provided in this document is important whenever the driver installed on the MAC is suspected to cause issues or in case it is definitely corrupted. The following process has to be followed before installing any newer driver version to assure the proper performance of the new drivers UNINSTALLING DRIVERS 1. Remove driver from Print and Fax/Scan Queue. Path: Menu Bar/Apple Icon/System Preferences/Print and Scan/ Action: Highlight the printer and click on the "-" (Remove Printer) button 2. Reset Printing System. Path: Menu Bar/Apple Icon/System Preferences/Print and Scan/ Action: Right click on the blank area on the queue and click on “Reset Printing System”. NOTE: Another way to find the option is holding down the Option key while clicking the "-" (Remove printer) button. If no printers are currently added, hold down the Control key while clicking in the box that appears above the "+" (Add printer) button, then choose “Reset printing system”. For MAC 10.4, hold down the Option key while clicking the "+" (Add printer) button. NOTE: It is essential to perform this reset as it will delete all queues and jobs and it will restore all printer settings to their default by deleting configuration files. Any printers, scanners, or fax modems that previously appeared in System Preferences will need to be added again after resetting the printing system. 3. Delete the HP Folder. Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Printers/HP/ Action: Move the folder to the trash NOTE: The HP Utility and System Maintenance Utility will be deleted. If required, they need to be installed after the drivers are reinstalled and working fine. 4. Delete PPDs (.gz Files). Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/ Action: Delete all files referring to the SPECIFIC printer in question. For example, if you have the HP DJ T1100, get rid of ALL the files mentioning the T1100 (24in and 44in, postscript and non-postscript). NOTE: PostScript Printer Description (PPD) files are created by vendors to describe the entire set of features and capabilities available for their PostScript printers. A PPD also contains the PostScript code (commands) used to invoke features for the print job. As such, PPDs function as drivers for all PostScript printers, by providing a unified interface for the printer's capabilities and features. For example, a generic PPD file for all models of HP Designjet printers contains basic device capabilities which specify that the printer understands PostScript language, is a color device, and so forth. The PPD can describe allowable paper sizes, memory configurations; the minimum font set for the printer, and it even specifies a tree-based user interface for printer-specific configuration. 5. Delete Extensions (Kext Files). Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/System/Library/Extensions/ Action: Delete ALL files starting with "hp_". NOTE: Kext files are essentially drivers for Mac OS. They’re generally used for device drivers that need to modify the system at the lowest level. Kext files "extend" Mac OS's kernel, the core part of the operating system, by providing additional code to be loaded when your computer boots. 6. Check for remaining HP files and folders in the Library. NOTE: Some of the next files and folders are available only depending on the Operating System or HP software that has been previously installed. Path: Menu Bar/Go/Applications/HP Uninstaller/ Action: If available, run the uninstaller. Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Application Support/ Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Frameworks/ Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Image Capture/Twain Data Source/ Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Preferences/ Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Scripts/ Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Startup Items/ Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Receipts/ Path: Menu Bar/Go/Computer/MAC HD/Library/Launchagents/ Action: if available, delete any HP files or folders. 7. Empty the Trash. Path: Menu Bar/File/Empty Trash/ Action: Empty Trash NOTE: Some files may not be deleted because the system considers that they are still in use. If so, restart the MAC and try again. 8. Repair Disk Permissions. Path: Menu Bar/Go/Utilities/Disk Utility/ Action: Highlight MAC HD and click on “Repair Disk Permissions”. NOTE: This process may take several minutes 9. Restart the MAC.
