DESCRIPTION

On an HP ProLiant DL585 G7, HP ProLiant BL685c G7, HP ProLiant DL385p Gen8, or HP ProLiant BL465c Gen8 server configured with an AMD Opteron 6100, 6200 or 6300-series processor, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP2 or SP3 may appear to halt while booting or shutting down. The loss of activity is temporary and may occur for several seconds.

SCOPE

Any of the following HP ProLiant servers configured with an AMD Opteron 6100, 6200 or 6300-series processor when booting or shutting down SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP2 or SP3:

  • HP ProLiant DL585 G7 server
  • HP ProLiant BL685c G7 server
  • HP ProLiant DL385p Gen8 server
  • HP ProLiant BL465c Gen8 server blade

RESOLUTION

As a workaround for the HP ProLiant DL585 G8 server and HP ProLiant BL685c G7 server blade, perform the following:

  1. Press the F9 key when prompted during the Power-On Self-Test to access the RBSU.
  2. Select Power Management Options.
  3. Select Advanced Power Management Options.
  4. Select Minimum Processor Idle Power State.
  5. Select No C-state.

As a workaround for the HP ProLiant DL385p Gen8 server and the HP ProLiant BL465c Gen8 server blade, perform the following:

  1. Press the F9 key when prompted during the Power-On Self-Test to access the RBSU.
  2. Select Power Management Options.
  3. Select Advanced Power Management Options.
  4. Select Minimum Processor Idle Power C1e State.
  5. Select Disabled.

OR

An alternative workaround for any affected server is as follows:

  1. Press the F9 key when prompted during the Power-On Self-Test to access the RBSU.
  2. Select Power Management Options.
  3. Select HP Power Profile.
  4. Select Maximum Performance.
