How to perform a firmware update
Most update methods assume that the printer is network connected and that the firmware will be updated remotely unless USB flash drive is listed as an available method. For parallel port connected printers, use the Easy Firmware Update Utility (.exe file) (where available). To update multiple printers at one time, use the HP Web Jetadmin method.
ENTERPRISE (FutureSmart) methods
HP Enterprise printers have compressed .zip file for all operating systems that contains a .bdl firmware file that can be installed using one or more of the following methods:
For Enterprise instructions, go to Update Firmware Using a USB flash drive or the Embedded Web Server (EWS) , or go to Update firmware using Web Jetadmin .
OLDER (non-FutureSmart) printer methods
Older printers have either an .exe, .sit, and .tar compressed file for Windows (.exe), Mac (.sit), and Unix (.tar) operating systems. Each compressed file contains an .rfu firmware file that can be installed using one or more of the following methods (depending on the printer and connection type):
For instructions, go to Update the firmware .
